History

The first mention of localities Birlenbach and Fachingen 1255 as Berlenbach and Vachungen.

Already from the Hallstatt period around 800-500 BC, the late Iron Age, there are graves near Brown stone and iron ore deposits, suggesting an ore mining at that time.

From 1806 the town was part of the duchy of Nassau, which was annexed in 1866 by Prussia. Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate.

1826 Before the children of Birlenbach had to attend school in Freiendiez. A school in Birlenbach was inaugurated on December 15, 1826, the school building was canceled in 1980 due to the poor structural condition. At the same place then the community center was created Freiherr- vom-Stein -Haus.

The traffic control connection was through the navigability of the river Lahn to casting and the construction of the Lahn Valley Railway with the completion in 1863.

Until the Second World War ore was mined in the 1856 abandoned quarries; the main tunnel loomed up to 1500 m in the mountain. In 1973, the limestone quarries were closed. The limestone quarries were asked in 1980 under nature protection.

Religion

Birlenbach is the Roman Catholic parish assigned to Sacred Heart in Diez and heard her to the pastoral space Diez, which in turn the district Limburg is incorporated in the diocese of Limburg.
