Mudershausen is a municipality in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Hahnstätten.

Geography

Geographical location

Mudershausen is in the Taunus eleven kilometers southwest of Limburg an der Lahn, near the Aar, which flows through the neighboring Customs House. Part of customs house belongs to Mudershausen.

Geology

360 million years ago in the era of the Devonian the area now Mudershausen was in the range of a shallow tropical sea in which coral reefs and reef limestones in the sequence formed. Such a former coral reef is shaped the landscape around Mudershausen. Since before 325-305 Millionen 's began the orogeny, the area is dry. Tectonic processes the layers of rock broke into floes and were partially raised vertically to several hundred meters thick layers of rock.

In the limestone karst formations are found, a special feature in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis is the phreatic karst called leaching of limestone by stagnant groundwater. Cave formation is a concise process, a total of over 70 caves in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis known, some of it around Mudershausen.

Nebelhöhle

The mist cave of the cave Ethnography Working Group 1999 - discovered Hesse ( HAGH ) and measured in 2000. It is 650 m long and 80 m vertical depth both the longest and deepest cave in Rhineland- Palatinate. The cave contains crystal formations and large Perl and Pressing Inter. It is closed to the public.

Community structure

For administrative center Mudershausen include the town Bonscheuer and part of the 250 inhabitants village customs house, the - administratively a rarity - a part of a total of four local churches. Besides Mudershausen include parts of the village to the local communities Burgschwalbach, Hahnstätten and Schiesheim. History

The place Mudershausen was first mentioned in 1416 as Mudershußen. It is because of tumuli finds from the fact that the area now Bonscheuer hamlet was settled earlier.

The name component " Mudersbach " goes back to a Frankish nobleman named " Mothar ", " live " suggests a pre-medieval forest village.

In the 15th century the inhabitants had to ask the guards for the castle Katzenelenbogen. Also in the 15th century began the breakdown of red and brown iron ore, ocher, phosphorite and magnetite. 1960 mining was stopped. The 4300 meter long Barbarastollen remembered today at this chapter of history, and is occasionally open for guided tours. In addition, marble and limestone were broken. For further processing was of a brick. Near Custom House is still a lime plant in operation.

In 1700, a first school was established on the upper floor of the house back. In March 1773, the town was destroyed by fire which broke out in a barn. After the fire in the village and 1831 each new school buildings were erected.

Muderhausen belonged from 1806 to 1866 to the Duchy of Nassau, which was formed in connection with the Act of Confederation. 1868 came Mudershausen to the Prussian province of Hesse -Nassau and was after the Second World War, part of the French zone of occupation.

The local council in Mudershausen consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009, by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Castle Hohle Fels

Located on a towering up to 60 meters above the Hohlenfelsbachtal limestone rocks, mid-14th century, built by order of the Count of Nassau -Weilburg -Saarbrücken castle was first in the fief of the noble family of Langenau and was in the 15th century due to many estate settlement a Ganerbenburg. Until around 1600, the Lords of Mudersbach could then bring the Burglehen in their sole possession, which nachfolgten the Lords of Kronberg and Waldecker of Kempt. Expanded to a new building in the early 18th century, Grade II listed castle is owned by eventful history now privately owned, but since 2005 has been on a few days in the year open to the public.

At the foot of the castle rock existed in the late Middle Ages a village called Hohle Fels, which had evolved from a farm, but was abandoned during the Thirty Years' War. The still existing farmhouse now houses a youth center.

Town hall

The Town Hall in Mudershausen in 1913 designed and built from 1914 to 1915. The building united town hall and prayer room, which was in Hesse and the Westerwald since the 18th century tradition. In addition, club rooms, the fire station and a prison cell have been established. The building is surmounted by a clock tower. Since 1983, the Town Hall is a listed building.

Traffic

Mudershausen is connected by a circular road with the neighboring towns of customs house and mountain living. Between 1901 and 1953 the town had two railway stations ( Mudershausen and Hohle Fels ) along the route of the light railway from Nassau customs house after Nastaetten.
