Herold, Germany

Herold is a municipality in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Katzenelenbogen.

Geography

Herold is on the institutions, the slightly lower north-western part of the Taunus.

History

The village was mentioned in 1260 in the treaty of partition of Katzenelnbogen counts under the name Herberod. Herold was from this time until the year 1775 " vierherrisch ". The Vierherrische was a part of the institutions, ruled jointly by several princes. One half belonged to the Counts of Katzenelnbogen, the other half belonged to three Nassau Count worldwide. Important landlord was until 1839 the monastery Gronau. The Duchy of Nassau, and with him Herold was annexed in 1866 by Prussia. Since 1946, the Herald is part of Rhineland- Palatinate. 1972 came in the wake of an administrative reform to form the municipality Katzenelenbogen who belongs to the local church Herold.

Parish council

The local council in the municipality Herold consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The Herolder coat of arms is divided into two in gold and blue. Above two crossed Rodehacken in red; below 2:1 Asked silver shamrocks.

Herold was originally Herveroth, this means clearing the Herv or Herbert. So the village was born as a clearing in the forest. Therefore, the Rodehacken are included in the coat of arms.

The lower part refers to the vierherrische rule. Of the three Nassau Count had two small houses next to the Nassau lion golden beams in the arms, one of them had taken the bar shamrocks. The designer of the emblem opted for the Shamrocks, probably because they liked better.

The colors red and gold are the colors of the Counts of Katzenelenbogen. The colors blue and gold are the colors of Nassau Count.
