Until the second half of the 19th century, the main source of income of the Steinberger inhabitants was agriculture. Again and again there were violent storms ( such as at May 25, 1831 or on June 2, 1903), which meant that the grain crops were destroyed in the fields. This led again and again to increase poverty.
