Hambach, Germany

Hambach is a municipality in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Diez.

Geography

The territory of the municipality Hambach is one of the foothills of the Westerwald. Hambach is located about 5 km west of Limburg an der Lahn, about 4 km north-west of Diez and about 11 km east of Montabaur.

History

The first mention Hambachs took place in 1290 in an obituary of the St. Lubentius to Dietkirchen. Hambach was part of the County of Diez. From 1806 the town was part of the duchy of Nassau, which was annexed in 1866 by Prussia. Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate.

1890 a school was built, it had to be closed due to lack of pupils in 1936 and was then used from 1947 to 1961 again. Today Hambach is in the catchment area of the schools in Altendiez.

Religion

Hambach is associated with the Roman Catholic parish of the Sacred Heart in Diez and heard her to the pastoral space Diez, which in turn the district Limburg is incorporated in the diocese of Limburg.

As a result of the Reformation beginning of the 16th century Protestant Hambach as part of the county Diez.
