Geisig

Geisig is a municipality in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Nassau.

Geography

To Geisig includes the residential places Dick mill Habbesmühle and Weidenmühle.

History

Close proximity to Geisig there was the Roman Limes, so that it can be assumed that an early settlement at that time. Geisig was first documented in 1250, first as Geisecho and in 1260 as Geiseche. The town's name comes from Geisaha and means as much as the bubbling brook, probably the name of the Hombach.

Geisig was a long time in the possession of the Four Men 's Court at the establishments ( The Vierherrische was a part of the institutions, ruled jointly by princes. One half belonged to the Counts of Katzenelnbogen, the other half three Nassau Count worldwide. ) And then part of the Office Nassau.

Parish council

The local council in Geisig consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman location.

Attractions

  • Chapel ( first mentioned 1480) and church from the 16th century. The latter was built by an ancestor of the Freiherr vom und zum Stein.
  • The old brick house has been renovated and is still in operation.
  • As monuments in the UNESCO World Heritage and the Upper Germanic Rhaetian Limes - and some tumuli apply.

Tourists will find in Geisig numerous ways to recover on hiking and biking trails, such as the Lahn- Taunus- trail through the Mühlbachtal Limes hiking trail, the German Limes Cycle Route. As a special feasts in place the Gaasjer Fasenacht and the traditional Thanksgiving apply.
