Kasdorf

Kasdorf is a municipality in the Blue Country in Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Nastaetten.

Geography

Kasdorf is located between the Rhine and Lahn Taunus.

History

The site was first documented in 1263 as " Chastraffa ". With the death of Philip I ended in 1479, the number of counts of Katzenelenbogen. Their "Low County " fell by inheritance agreement to the Landgrave of Hesse. Since 1557, the area was in possession of Hesse- Kassel. Already in ( and before) the 16th century, sheep farming was here intensively operated and sells woven from the wool fabrics as a particularly valuable " Nastätter cloth " at home and abroad. From about 1590 the flax growing was an important source of income. Also cloth was made from the flax, which was often dyed blue. This is the origin of the name Blue Ländchen for the area. After 1794 the city came under French administration, the official residence of the Mairie was Langenschwalbach. Since 1815, belonged to the former Casdorf the Duchy of Nassau, from 1866 to Prussia.

Since 1937 the present name Kasdorf has its validity. Since 1946 Kasdorf is part of the newly founded state of Rhineland- Palatinate.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: " On a silver background a green shamrock ." The clover should probably be expressed the importance of agriculture in the fertile Kasdorfer trough.
