Dausenau

Dausenau is a municipality in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Bad Ems. Dausenau is a nationally recognized resort.

Geography

The place is right on the Lahn. The old town, surrounded by a city wall, has become two sides of a small tributary stream of the Lahn, the sub stream, developed.

History

Dausenau was first documented in 1234 as " Duzenowe ". The city rights were granted place in 1348, but these were later lost. From the 17th to the 19th century at Dausenau copper was mined. Until the recent past, wine was grown in Dausenau. Viticulture has been set until 1991.

Culture and sights

Worth seeing is the St. Kastor Church, whose Romanesque tower was built around 1179, the early Gothic nave and two aisles Season - galleries - hall church was built in the second decade of the 14th century. In the church there are wall paintings from the 14th and 16th centuries, which were reconstructed in 1902, and an altarpiece dating from around 1500 with figures of the cartridge and panel paintings from the life of Mary. For restoration and renovation works in the early 1990s, several graves were found in the church. In addition to various jewelry parts and the fragment of a scallop shell was found. On the church memory there is evidence of a pilgrim hostel.

The medieval city walls is still largely preserved. From the towers of the city walls are still standing and the gate tower, the Leaning Tower, the latter declined in the 19th and 20th century and in 1950 was canceled by about 7.50 m. Stumps of 5 other towers have survived. Right next to the gate tower is 1100 year old oak court.

Built in the late Gothic style " Old Town Hall " from 1434 is considered the second oldest half-timbered town hall in Germany.

A half-timbered building from 1650 houses Dausenaus historically handed down inn on the River Lahn.
