Filsen

Filsen (formerly also Vilze, felting ) is a municipality in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Loreley.

Geography

Filsen is surrounded by the biggest Rhine loop on the middle Rhine opposite Boppard.

History

Filsen was first mentioned in documents as Vilze 1230. This first documentary mention documents a donation of vineyards at the Kloster Eberbach. On February 6, 1276, a church dedicated to the Holy Sankt Gallus in Vilzene was first mentioned in a document.

The name is from the Latin villicinus (villa = estate and Vicinio = adjacent ) returned.

Until 1792 Filsen belonged to the Office Boppard in the Electorate of Trier. After the conquest of the territory west of the Rhine by the French in 1794, the right bank of the Office remains Boppard were the Office Wellmich based in Camp (now Kamp- Bornhofen ) attached. By the Imperial Diet in 1803 Filsen came to Nassau -Weilburg. In 1806, the Association of Nassau- Weilburg and Nassau- Usingen to the Duchy of Nassau. With the annexation of the Duchy of Nassau by Prussia in 1866 Filsen became Prussian and was with the founding in 1868 until its dissolution in 1944 the Prussian province of Hesse -Nassau, and from 1944 to 1945 the province of Nassau. After the American invasion in 1945 Filsen came first to the province Saarland - Palatinate South Hessen, 1946 the newly formed state of Rhineland -Palatinate.

On April 1, 1886, the municipality Filsen was among the newly formed St. Goar, Sankt Goar district from 1946 attached. This was renamed in 1962 in Loreley circle. As a result of the district reform in 1968, the Loreley circle and the lower circle to the Rhein- Lahn Lahn-Kreis were merged. The village belonged to from 1972 to 2012 the municipality Braubach.

The local council in Filsen consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Culture and sights

Structures

Worth seeing are the many half-timbered buildings in Filsen, especially the " wax Port".

The old city hall of Filsen 1611 (also known as Old gate ) over a medieval gate of the former town fortification, the so-called wax port, built. At the old quarry stone work of the archway, the former rural community Backhaus is grown. On the platform, led up to a broad stone staircase, once stood the night watchman. In the apartment above the archway of the village schoolmaster lived. The Town Hall on the 2nd floor was until 1881 the school hall, behind which was the municipal archives.

An inscription above the gate summarizes the historic features of the building vividly together:

The wax I'll port called As a college I 'm village known Since the watchman blew at night the hour, He also was known to fire and water.

A historic inn on the Old gate from 1879 until 2005 he was also butcher.

1879 the construction of the Church of St. Margaret was completed in the Gothic style, which replaced the old, Sankt Gallus church dedicated.

Traffic

Filsen is right on the main road 42, the right bank of the Rhine Valley passes.

The connection between Filsen and the left bank of Boppard is made in ferry traffic through the ferry town of Boppard.

The Filsen station is located on the right bank route and binds the place in the passenger trains of the Rheingau- line via Wiesbaden to Frankfurt am Main and in the reverse direction via Koblenz to Neuwied to.
