Horhausen, Rhein-Lahn

Horhausen is a municipality in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Diez.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Nassau nature park in the Westerwald in the Esterau at maximum. Horhausen is 9 km south of Montabaur, 8 km west of Diez, 11 km west of Limburg an der Lahn. Horhausen was the settlement form after originally a horseshoe village, this original form of settlement is no longer visible due to new housing developments today.

History

Celtic burial mounds from the period 500-100 BC, evidence of an early settlement in the area of the local church Horhausen. These are so-called cremations. Their name " Römerkippel " testifies to the earlier erroneous assumption that it was Roman tombs. 1896 at Horhausen a Celtic chieftain's grave was dug.
