Horhausen, Rhein-Lahn
Horhausen is a municipality in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Diez.
Geography
The municipality is located in the Nassau nature park in the Westerwald in the Esterau at maximum. Horhausen is 9 km south of Montabaur, 8 km west of Diez, 11 km west of Limburg an der Lahn. Horhausen was the settlement form after originally a horseshoe village, this original form of settlement is no longer visible due to new housing developments today.
History
Celtic burial mounds from the period 500-100 BC, evidence of an early settlement in the area of the local church Horhausen. These are so-called cremations. Their name " Römerkippel " testifies to the earlier erroneous assumption that it was Roman tombs. 1896 at Horhausen a Celtic chieftain's grave was dug. Many of the findings gained from this can be seen today in the museum of the Castle Waldeck. 1962, a hump grave was uncovered during the construction of an oil pipeline, which points to a settlement centuries before the " cremations time ".
The oldest known mention Horhausens in a document dating back to 1345. The name Horhausen, originally Horhusen means something like "houses at the bottom ." The name is presumably of Celtic origin
Before commissioning the mine Holzappel middle of the 18th century, the majority of the population in agriculture, working as artisans or as forest workers. Since the commissioning of the " pit Holzappel " mining was a significant acquisition opportunity.
1795 temporarily occupied by the French, was the place from 1806 part of the duchy of Nassau, which was annexed in 1866 by Prussia. Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate.
In the area of local church Horhausen lies the deserted Bill Stone. Bill Stein had become even before the Thirty Years War to the deserted village.
From 1867 to 1969 school was held in Horhausen first premises was used for this purpose in the bakehouse before 1926 a school building was erected. Since 1969 Horhausen belongs to the catchment area of the primary and secondary school Esterauschule in Holzappel.
1962 Horhausen won a 1st place at the county level in the competition " Our village is beautiful ."
Religion
Horhausen is the Roman Catholic parish of St. Boniface assigned in Holzappel and heard her to the pastoral space Diez, which in turn the district Limburg is incorporated in the diocese of Limburg.
On the Protestant side of the place of the parish Holzappel the dean's office of the provost Diez South Nassau in the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau ( EKHN ) is a member.

The local council in Horhausen consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Horhausen is on the road L 313, which opens 1 km southeast of Horhausen in the B 417. The motorway junction Diez at the A 3 is 6 km away.
Horhausen is connected by bus lines 540 and 458 of the transport association Rhein-Mosel to public transport.
The nearest railway stations are the ICE railway station Montabaur and Limburg Süd station.
