Omaha Knights

The Omaha Knights were an American ice hockey franchise in the International Hockey League from Omaha, Nebraska. Their home stadium was the Ak -Sar - Ben Coliseum.

History

The Omaha Knights were founded in 1959 as a franchise of the International Hockey League. In their first season the Knights in 67 main round games could reach 35 points. Thus, they did not qualify for the play- offs to the Turner Cup. During the seasons 1961/62 and 1962/63 was won by the former goalkeeper of the Knights, Glenn Ramsay, the James Norris Memorial Trophy for the goalkeeper with the least Gegentorschnitt the main round. Furthermore, it was Gravel 1963 John was awarded the Garry F. Longman Memorial Trophy for the best young players.

In the summer of 1963 the club moved to the Central Professional Hockey League, which was renamed Central Hockey League in 1968. The place of the Knights of the International Hockey League took over the Toledo Blade. The Knights won first time in 1964 the Adams Cup. After the 1964/65 season had the Ak -Sar - Ben Coliseum will be renovated and the Knights put the game mode and leaving their CHL license the Houston Apollos. When the stadium was renovated to an end, they took the season 1966/67, again on the game mode and acquired for this purpose the license of Minnesota Rangers. In the following period the Knights were able to connect to their past successes and won in 1970, 1971 and 1973 again the Adams Cup, the championship of the Central Hockey League, scoring thus together with the Dallas Blackhawks, who also won four championships, the most successful teams in 1984 resolved league. There, the Knights played until 1975 before the club was dissolved in the same year.
