Chet Edwards

Thomas Chester "Chet " Edwards ( * November 24, 1951 in Corpus Christi, Texas ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party. He represented the state of Texas from 1991 until 2011 in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Chet Edwards studied at Texas A & M University and earned his bachelor's degree there in 1974. 1981 was followed by the Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. Professionally, he was employed as an assistant to the Texas Congressman Olin E. Teague between 1974 and 1977. When that did not run in 1978, Edwards was running for his successor, but was defeated in the Democratic Primary Phil Gramm, who joined the Republicans later.

After he had been active in the sequence as a businessman, Edwards sat 1983-1990 in the Senate of Texas. In 1990 he was still nominated by his party for the congressional elections. After several election victories, he was a member of the Congress of January 3, 1991 to January 3, 2011, where he initially the eleventh and then from 2005 represented the 17th legislative district. In 2010, he ran for re-election, but lost this time the Republican Bill Flores clearly with 37:62 percent of the vote.
