Chris Bell (politician)

Robert Christopher " Chris " Bell ( born November 23, 1959 in Abilene, Texas) is an American politician. Between 2003 and 2005 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Chris Bell studied until 1982 at the University of Texas at Austin journalism. He then worked for some time as a television and radio journalist. After studying law at South Texas College of Law in Houston and his admission to the bar he began to work in this profession since 1992. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. Between 1997 and 2001 he sat in the City Council of Houston.

In the congressional elections of 2002, Bell was in the 25th electoral district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Ken Bentsen on 3 January 2003. Since he was not nominated by his party for re-election in 2004, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 2005. This was marked by the events of the Iraq war.

In 2006, Bell ran for governor of Texas, but was defeated by Republican incumbent Rick Perry with 30:39 percent of the vote. Two years later failed as a candidate for the Senate from Texas. Today, he practiced as a lawyer again.
