Robert Gammage

Robert Alton Gammage ( born March 13, 1938 in Houston, Texas; † 10 September 2012 in Austin, Texas) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1977 and 1979 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Robert Gammage attended the public schools of his home and thereafter until 1958, the Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. Between 1959 and 1960 he was a soldier in the U.S. Army. Subsequently, he studied until 1963 at the University of Corpus Christi and then to 1965 at the Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. After studying law at the University of Texas at Austin and his 1969 was admitted as a lawyer he worked until 1979 in Houston in this profession. From 1965 to 1995 Gammage was a member of the Reserve of the U.S. Navy. In the 1960s he worked as a lecturer at various universities in Texas. Most recently, he held 1971-1973 legal lectures at South Texas College of Law in Houston. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In the years 1971 and 1973 he was a deputy in the Texas House of Representatives; between 1973 and 1976 he was a member of the State Senate.

In the congressional elections of 1976 Gammage was in the 22nd electoral district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Robert R. Casey on January 3, 1977. Since he has not been confirmed in 1978, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1979. In the years 1979 and 1980, Gammage was Deputy Attorney General of the State of Texas. At that time he was also Special Advisor to the Federal Department of Energy. From 1980 to 1982 he practiced as a lawyer in Austin; after that he worked there as a judge at the Court of Appeal until 1991. He then served on until 1995 the Supreme Court of Texas. In 2006, he unsuccessfully sought the nomination of his party for the upcoming gubernatorial election. Otherwise, he most recently worked as a lawyer and legal advisor.
