Tom Loeffler

Gilbert Thomas "Tom" Loeffler ( born August 1, 1946 in Fredericksburg, Texas) is an American politician. Between 1979 and 1987 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Tom Loeffler attended until 1964, the Mason High School and then studied until 1968 at the University of Texas at Austin. After a subsequent law degree from the same university and its 1971 for the admission to the bar he began to work in this profession. In the years 1971 and 1972 he was a legal adviser to the U.S. Department of Commerce. From 1972 to 1975 he was on the staff of U.S. Senator John Tower. At that time he also worked for the Department of Energy Federal Energy Administration.

From 1975 to 1977 counted Loeffler also to the legal staff of advisers of President Gerald Ford the same time, he began as a member of the Republican Party its own political career. In the years 1984, 1988 and 1992 he was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions respective on which Ronald Reagan and George Bush were nominated as a presidential candidate. In the congressional elections of 1978, Loeffler was the 21st electoral district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Bob Krueger on January 3, 1979. After three re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1987 four legislative sessions.

1986 renounced Loeffler on another candidacy. Instead, he tried unsuccessfully to his party's nomination for the upcoming gubernatorial election. In 1987, Loeffler was the coordinator for legal relations with Central America in the Office of Legislative Affairs of the White House. From 1989 to 2001 he served on the board of the University of Texas. Until 19 May 2008, he was part of the campaign team of Republican presidential candidate John McCain. Today he works for a lobbying firm in the capital Washington. His son Cullen Loeffler suggested a career as a professional footballer.
