Lloyd Doggett

Lloyd Doggett ( born October 6, 1946 in Austin, Texas) is an American lawyer and politician of the Democratic Party. He represents the state of Texas since 1995 in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Life

Doggett studied law at the University of Texas at Austin. During his studies he was in 1967 elected president of the student council; Furthermore, he gave his training was completed, the Texas Law Review with out. He graduated in 1970 with honors. With 26 years Doggett was elected to the Senate from Texas, where he remained eleven years. He was involved at this time in the drafting of 124 laws of the State of Texas.

In 1988 he was elected judge of the Texas Supreme Court. He gave votes, in which he supported the right to proceedings before juries, equality in school fees and free access to information. The Mexican-American Bar of Texas described him as ' exceptional judge from Texas, "he was awarded the James Madison Award from the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas and was the First Amendment Award from the National Society of Professional Journalists.

1994 Lloyd Doggett was elected the tenth electoral district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 2005, he joined the 25th district of his state. His last re- election was held in 2009 with 53:45 percent of the vote against Republican Donna Campbell. In the 113th Congress, he serves on the Committee on Ways and Means.
