Jesse M. Combs

Jesse Martin Combs (* July 7, 1889 in Center, Shelby County, Texas; † August 21, 1953 in Beaumont, Texas ) was an American politician. Between 1945 and 1953 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jesse Combs attended the public schools of his native land and from then until 1912, the Southwest Texas State Teachers College. After a subsequent law degree in 1918 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started in Kountze to work in his new profession. In the years 1919 and 1920 he served as District Judge in Hardin County. He then worked as a judge until 1943 at various courts in Texas. From 1926 to 1940 he was Chairman of the Board of the schools of South Park; between 1940 and 1944 he held the same function for the Lamar College. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1944, Combs was in the second electoral district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Martin Dies, Jr. on January 3, 1945. After three re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1953 four legislative sessions. In this time, the end of the Second World War and the beginning of the Cold War fell. 1952 Jesse Combs waived on a bid again. He died on August 21, 1953 in Beaumont, where he was also buried.
