Marvin Leath

James Marvin Leath ( born May 6, 1931 in Henderson, Rusk County, Texas, † December 8th, 2000 in Arlington, Virginia ) was an American politician. Between 1979 and 1991 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Marvin Leath attended the public schools of his home, including the Henderson High School, graduating in 1949. Then he was at Kilgore Junior College before he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin until 1954. In the years 1954 to 1956 he served in the U.S. Army. He was then to 1959 Football coach at Henderson High School. He then worked in retail. Since 1962, Leath worked in the banking industry. He was director of several banks and two craft. From 1972 to 1974 he was on the staff of Congressman William R. Poage.

Politically, Leath joined the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1978 he was in the eleventh electoral district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, DC chosen, where he became in 1979 Poages successor on January 3. After five re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1991 six legislative periods. In 1990 he abandoned a bid again. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Leath did not occur in a political phenomenon. He died on 8 December 2000 in Arlington.
