Kent Hance

Kent Ronald Hance ( born November 14, 1942 in Dimmitt, Castro County, Texas) is an American politician. Between 1979 and 1985 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Kent Hance attended the common schools and then studied until 1965 at Texas Tech University. After a subsequent law studies at the University of Texas and his 1968 was admitted as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. Between 1974 and 1978 he was a member of the Senate of Texas. In the congressional elections of 1978 he was in the 19th electoral district of his state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of George H. Mahon on January 3, 1979. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1985 three legislative periods. He was viewed as very conservative.

In 1984 he gave up another candidacy. Instead, he sought unsuccessfully to his party's nomination for election to the U.S. Senate. In 1985 Kent Hance his party affiliation and became a member of the Republican Party. In the years 1986 and 1990 he unsuccessfully sought the nomination of his new party for the gubernatorial elections. Between 1987 and 1990 he served as railroad commissioner of the state of Texas. Since 2006 he has been Chancellor ( Chancellor ) of the Texas Tech University System.
