William H. Crain

William Henry Crain ( born November 25, 1848 in Galveston, Texas, † February 10, 1896 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1885 and 1896 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Crain attended until 1867 various schools in New York City. He then returned to Texas, where he worked on a ranch for two years; then he worked as a teacher. After studying law and his 1871 was admitted to the bar he began in Indianola to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In the years 1876-1878 Crain was a member of the Senate of Texas. From 1872 to 1876 he was a prosecutor in the 23rd Judicial District of Texas.

In the congressional elections of 1884 Crain was selected in the seventh election district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of Thomas P. Ochiltree on March 4, 1885. After five elections he could remain until his death on 10 February 1896 in the Congress. Since 1893 he represented there as a successor of Samuel WT Lanham the eleventh district of his state.
