William Neff Patman

William Neff Patman ( born March 26, 1927 in Texarkana, Texas, † December 9, 2008 in Houston, Texas ) was an American politician. Between 1981 and 1985 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Patman was the son of Congressman Wright Patman ( 1893-1976 ). He attended the common schools and in the federal capital Washington. In 1944 he graduated from Kemper Military School in Boonville (Missouri ). In the final phase of the Second World War he was a soldier in the 1945-1946 Marine Corps. Later he became one 1953-1966 as a reserve captain of the Air Force. In the meantime, he worked in the years 1949 and 1950 as a diplomatic courier in the Foreign Service. After studying law at the University of Texas at Austin and his 1953 was admitted as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. From 1953 to 1955 he was legally working for the railroad Commission of the State of Texas. He then practiced as a private attorney. He was also a 1955-1960 legal representative of the community Ganado. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1961 and 1980 he sat in the Senate of Texas. He was also from 1960 to 1978 a delegate to all regional party conferences of the Democrats.

In the congressional elections of 1980, Patman was elected in the 14th electoral district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of Joseph P. Wyatt on January 3, 1981. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1985 two legislative sessions. In 1984 he was not re-elected. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives to Patman withdrew into retirement, which he spent in Ganado. He died on 9 December 2008 in Houston from stomach cancer.
