John C. Conner

John Coggswell Conner ( born October 14, 1842 in Noblesville, Hamilton County, Indiana, † December 10, 1873 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1869 and 1873 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Conner attended the common schools and Wabash College in Crawfordsville. In the years 1861 and 1862 he studied at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Between 1862 and 1864 he served during the Civil War in an infantry unit from Indiana, which belonged to the army of the Union. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1866 he ran unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives from Indiana. Between 1866 and 1869 Conner was stationed as a captain in the United States Army in Texas.

After the resumption of the State of Texas into the Union, he was elected in the second election district of this State in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he took up his new mandate on 31 March 1870. After a re-election, he could remain until March 3, 1873 in Congress. For health reasons, he resigned in 1872 to further candidacy. He died on 10 December 1873 in the German capital Washington and was buried in his birthplace of Noblesville.
