Clyde L. Garrett

Clyde Leonard Garrett (* December 16, 1885 in Gorman, Eastland County, Texas, † December 18, 1959 in Eastland, Texas ) was an American politician. Between 1937 and 1941 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Clyde Garrett attended the common schools and the Hankins ' Normal College. He grew up on a farm and then worked for some time as a railroad worker. In the years 1906 and 1907 he taught as a teacher in Sweetwater. From 1907 to 1912 he worked at the Tax Authority; 1913 to 1919 he was employed as a clerk in the administration in Eastland County. From 1920 to 1922 Garrett worked in the real estate industry, the insurance industry and in the banking industry. He also appeared in the years 1922 and 1923, City Manager ( City Manager) in Eastland. Between 1929 and 1936 he served as District Judge.

Politically, Garrett was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1936 he was in the 17th electoral district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Thomas L. Blanton on January 3, 1937. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1941 two legislative sessions. During this period more New Deal legislation of the Federal Government were adopted under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. 1940 Garrett was not nominated by his party for re-election.

Between 1941 and 1942 he worked for the Ministry of Commerce. After that, he was employed at the Office of War Information to 1943. In 1944, he unsuccessfully sought the nomination of his party for the congressional elections. In the years 1949 and 1950 he worked for the Veterans ' Administration, which dealt with the affairs of veterans, active. From 1951 to 1956 he served as director of its subsidiary in Waco. In 1958, he sought unsuccessfully to the post of district judge in Eastland County. Clyde Garrett died on December 18, 1959 in Eastland, where he was also buried.
