Oscar W. Gillespie

Oscar William Gillespie (* June 20, 1858 in Quitman, Clarke County, Mississippi; † August 23, 1927 in Fort Worth, Texas ) was an American politician. Between 1903 and 1911 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Oscar Gillespie attended private schools and from then until 1885, Mansfield College in Texas. After studying law and his 1886 was admitted as a lawyer, he started in Fort Worth to work in this profession. Between 1886 and 1888 he served as deputy prosecutor in Tarrant County. There he worked 1890-1894 as District Attorney. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career.

In the congressional elections of 1902, Gillespie was in the twelfth electoral district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of James Luther Slayden on March 4, 1903. After three re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1911 four legislative sessions. In 1910, he was not nominated by his party for re-election. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Oscar Gillespie practiced as a lawyer again. He died on August 23, 1927 in Fort Worth and was buried in Mansfield.
