John W. Cranford

John Walter Cranford (* 1862 in Grove Hill, Clarke County, Alabama; † March 3, 1899 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1897 and 1899 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Cranford attended the public schools of his home. At times, he has also taught privately. Around the year 1880 he moved to Texas, where he settled in Sulphur Springs. After studying law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. Between 1888 and 1896 he sat in the Senate of Texas, which he was president in the meantime.

In the congressional elections of 1896 Cranford was selected in the fourth electoral district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of not more candidates David B. Culberson on March 4, 1897. This mandate he was able to exercise until his death on March 3, 1899. On this day also ended the legislative session. In his time as a congressman of the Spanish-American War fell from 1898.
