James H. Jones

James Henry Jones (* September 13, 1830 in Shelby County, Alabama, † March 22, 1904 in Henderson, Texas ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Even in his childhood came James Jones with his parents in the Talladega County, where he later attended the public schools. After a subsequent law degree in 1851 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started in Henderson to work in this profession. During the Civil War, Jones served in the army of the Confederacy, where he rose to colonel. After the war, he practiced as a lawyer again. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career.

In the congressional elections of 1882 Jones was in the third electoral district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Olin Wellborn on March 4, 1883. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1887 two legislative sessions. In 1886 he gave up another candidacy. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Jones worked as an attorney in Henderson again, where he died on March 22, 1904.
