Ollie Murray James

Ollie James Murray ( born July 27, 1871 Marion, Crittenden County, Kentucky; † August 28, 1918 in Baltimore, Maryland ) was an American politician (Democratic Party), who represented the state of Kentucky in both chambers of Congress.

Ollie James grew up in western Kentucky. As a teenager, he held the position of a page in the state legislature of Kentucky. He then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1891; In the same year he began to practice as a lawyer.

In 1902, James ran for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the first election district of Kentucky. He was successful and was re-elected four times, so that he belonged to the house of Parliament on 4 March 1903 to 3 March 1913. In the run up to the presidential elections in 1912, James was one of the extended circle of contenders for the presidency, the Democratic nomination ultimately to Woodrow Wilson. The electoral party headed Ollie James as chairman; In 1916, he had held this position again.

Also in 1912, renounced Ollie James on another candidacy for the House of Representatives to instead apply for a seat in the Senate. He won the election and was sworn in on March 4, 1913. In the Senate, he served as chairman of the Patent Committee. But James died before the end of his term in August 1918 in a hospital in Baltimore. He was buried in the cemetery of his home town of Marion.
