Steve Buyer

Stephen Earle "Steve" Buyer ( * November 26, 1958 in Rensselaer, Jasper County, Indiana) is an American politician of the Republican Party. He was from 1993 to 2011 member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Indiana.

Biography

After visiting the North White High School, he studied from 1976 to 1980 at the Military Academy and The Citadel where she earned a Bachelor of Science ( B.Sc.). A subsequent post-graduate studies in law at the Law School of Valparaiso University, he finished in 1984 with a Juris Doctor ( JD). After a brief career as a lawyer, he was from 1984 to 1987 as a captain of legal staff of the United States Army in the Judge Advocate General's Corps from 1987 to 1988 and then Deputy Attorney General ( Deputy Attorney General ) of Indiana. During the military operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm during the Second Gulf War in 1990 to 1991, he was legal adviser to the U.S. Army used. Since 1980 he is member of the U.S. Army Reserve, where he was promoted to colonel in 2004.

As a Republican candidate in 1992 he became first elected member of the U.S. House of Representatives and represented by eight subsequent re- elections from 3 January 1993, the fifth and from 3 January 2003, the fourth electoral district of Indiana. In 1998 he was one of the members appointed by the House of Representatives of the managers ultimately unsuccessful impeachment procedure ( impeachment ) against U.S. President Bill Clinton. Between 2005 and 2007 he was chairman of the Committee on Veterans Affairs (U.S. House Committee on Veterans' Affairs ); until his retirement from Congress, he was a senior member of the Republican minority highest fraction ( Ranking Minority Member) opposition leader in this committee. In addition, Buyer was member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce (U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce ).

In 2010 buyers opted not to run again. The reason he gave to his wife a disease; with the absence of a further term of office he wanted to reduce the stress in their life together. He was succeeded in January 2011 Todd Rokita.
