Perkins County (Nebraska)

Perkins County is a county located in the state of Nebraska in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Grant, which was named after President Ulysses S. Grant.

Geography

The County is located in southwest Nebraska, on the east by Colorado and has an area of ​​2290 square kilometers, of which 3 square miles is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Lincoln County, Hayes County, Chase County and Keith County.

History

Perkins County was formed in 1887. It was named after Charles E. Perkins, a president of a railroad company.

The area of the county was in the 19th century from the south (Kansas) to the north ( Dakota) traversed by herds of cattle; Cowboys often worked as former black slaves.
