Red Willow County, Nebraska
Red Willow County is a county located in the state of Nebraska in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is McCook. The city was home to three governors of Nebraska: Earl Benjamin Nelson, Ralph Brooks and Frank Morrison.
Geography
The County is located in southern Nebraska, adjacent to the state of Kansas and has an area of 1860 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. It borders in Nebraska clockwise to the following counties: Furnas County, Hitchcock County and Frontier County.
History
Red Willow County was formed in 1873. It was named after the Red Willow Creek.

According to the census of 2000, there were 11,448 people in Red Willow County. Of these, 262 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 4,710 households and 3,188 families. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.55 percent White, 0.16 percent African American, 0.38 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.93 percent from other races groups; 0.80 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.45 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 4,710 households out of which 30.2 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.5 percent were married couples living together, 7.2 percent were single mothers, 32.3 percent were non-families, 28.6 percent of all households and 13.5 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.92.
Based on the county the population was spread from 24.9 percent population under 18 years, 8.8 percent between 18 and 24 years, 24.6 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.6 percent between 45 and 64 years and 19.0 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.3 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 32,293, and the median income for a family was $ 40,279. Males had a median income of $ 27,768, women $ 18,768. The per capita income was $ 16,303. 7.6 percent of families and 9.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 11.4 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 7.6 percent of those 65 years.
