Webster County (Nebraska)
Webster County is a county located in the state of Nebraska in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Red Cloud, named after Red Cloud, a political leader of the Plains Indians.
Geography
The County is located in southeastern Nebraska, on the south by the state of Kansas and has an area of 1489 square kilometers without significant water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Adams County, Clay County, Nuckolls County, Franklin County and Kearney County.
History
Webster County was formed in 1871. It was named after the statesman Daniel Webster.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Webster County 4,061 people in 1,708 households and 1,118 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 98.10 percent White, 0.15 percent African American, 0.27 percent Native American, 0.47 percent Asian, 0.07 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.22 percent from other races groups; 0.71 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.54 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,708 households out of which 26.8 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.7 percent were married couples living together, 5.0 percent were single mothers, 34.5 percent were non-families, 32.6 percent of all households and 17.9 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.89.
Based on the county the population was spread from 23.6 percent population under 18 years, 4.6 percent between 18 and 24 years, 22.9 percent between 25 and 44 years, 24.6 percent between 45 and 64 years and 24.3 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.6 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 30,026, and the median income for a family was $ 36,513. Males have a median income of $ 26,555, women $ 18,480. The per capita income was $ 16,802. 7.7 percent of families and 11.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 13.5 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 10.5 percent of those 65 years.
