Otoe County, Nebraska
Otoe County is a county located in the state of Nebraska in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Nebraska City, which was named after the Native American term for the Platte River.
Geography
The County is located in the extreme southeast of Nebraska, on the east by Iowa and Missouri, and has an area of 1603 square kilometers, of which nine square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cass County, Nemaha County, Johnson County, Gage County and Lancaster County.
History
Otoe County was formed in 1854. It was named after the eponymous Indian people.

According to the census of 2000, there were 15,396 people in Otoe County. Of these, 360 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 6,060 households and 4,229 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 97.42 percent White, 0.29 percent African American, 0.22 percent Native American, 0.25 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.14 percent from other races groups; 0.65 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.45 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 6,060 households out of which 32.5 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.7 percent were married couples living together, 7.2 percent were single mothers, 30.2 percent were non-families, 26.4 percent of all households and 14.1 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.01.
Based on the county the population was spread from 26.3 percent population under 18 years, 6.4 percent between 18 and 24 years, 26.1 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.8 percent between 45 and 64 years and 18.3 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.8 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 37,302, and the median income for a family was $ 45,295. Males have a median income of $ 30,682, women $ 21,520. The per capita income was $ 17,752. 5.9 percent of families and 8.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Among them were 9.3 percent of children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 7.7 percent of seniors aged 65 and over.
