Weinähr

Weinähr is a municipality in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Nassau. Weinähr is a nationally recognized tourist.

Geographical location

The place is located on Main approximately 30 kilometers south of Koblenz and Montabaur, about 80 kilometers north of Frankfurt. It is therefore in the north of Rhineland -Palatinate and in the southwest of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Weinähr lies to the east of the places chafing and Nassau, south of winds west of Dörnberg, northwest of Selbach and Altenhausen and north of Hollerech and Obernhof.

History

Weinähr was first mentioned in 1267 in a deed as suggestions. Establishing the vines contributed, have been preserved as a wine all in the name. Already in the 11th century, the monastery Arnstein was mentioned in a document, which has been the first settlement in the area. In the 14th century mills are mentioned in documents that have been operated by Gelbach by five mill wheels. Weinähr belonged until the secularization in 1802 to rule the area of ​​direct imperial Premonstratensian abbey Arnstein. From 1806 the town was part of the duchy of Nassau, which was annexed in 1866 by Prussia.

On February 13, 1945 P -47 of the U.S. armed forces was shot down over the place. Lieutenant Swope was able to escape by parachute. Weinährer citizens served the soldiers and rescued him from being lynched by the local leader of the NSDAP.

Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Economy

Until the 1950s, the mining industry has played an important role. Viticulture was first mentioned in 1267. Since 1971, the layers under the name Giebelhöll (1302 " Gyvelhelde " ) are combined to form a single layer. The Lahn wines are among the growing region Middle Rhine.
