2012–13 UEFA Europa League
The UEFA Europa League 2012/13 was the 42nd edition of the second most important competition for European football clubs, which took place up to the 2008/09 season under the name of the UEFA Cup. The contest took this season 193 clubs from all 53 national associations of UEFA part.
The season began with the first leg of the first qualifying round on July 3, 2012, and ended with the final on 15 May 2013 the Amsterdam Arena. There, Chelsea against Benfica won by a last minute goal from Branislav Ivanović 2-1 and took so after the Champions League in 2012 and the Europa League title in the following season.

Participant
Participants qualified through the national league and cup competitions in the UEFA member associations. Automatically eligible to start was the title holder of the previous year and the National Federation Cup winners of the Nations, provided that they had not qualified for the high-order Champions League competition in the first six places in the five-year evaluation. Thus, in the 2011/12 season took the then defending champions FC Porto not in the contest, as he had qualified as Portuguese champions directly for the Champions League. All other participants were determined through qualifying rounds, emerged as losers in the Champions League qualifier or after the first round as the third-placed Champions League group stage in the competition.
Mode
First held in 2012 found three qualifying rounds between early July and early August. Thus 32 teams reached the knockout phase, in which the enemy will be drawn separately for each round, which compete in each round-trip game against each other until the two finalists have been chosen. Earliest in the second round two representatives of a nation must meet. The final is decided in a single game.
Qualification
In the draws the teams according to their club coefficient based equally in set (stronger ) and unseeded (weaker ) teams were divided and drawn against each other.

The final round was called for better marketing opportunities " play-off ". In this round, the losing teams in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League came in 2012/13 added.
Group stage
For the first time alongside the defending champions and the cup winners of associations 1-6 in the UEFA five year ranking were automatically qualified for the group stage. As the space for the defending was not required by the double qualification of Atlético Madrid, Cup Winners advanced to Rank 7 ( Rubin Kazan ) in the group stage. At the group stage took 48 teams from 25 state associations in part, 7 teams were directly qualified to arrived ten losing teams from the Champions League qualification. The 48 qualified for the group stage teams were divided based on their club coefficient (KK ) on four Lostöpfe each with 12 teams, drawn from every Lostopf a team in one of the 12 groups (A to L); Teams in the same association could not be drawn into the same group. Atlético Madrid was performed as defending number 1 in the seedings, regardless of his club coefficients. The draw was held in Monaco on 31 August.

Among the 24 teams that qualified through the group stage of the Europa League, the eight third group of the Champions League were added. The draw of the sixteenth finals took place at 14:00 clock in Nyon on December 20, 2012. The group winners from the Europa League and the four best third out of the Champions League here were set; them the rest of the teams were drawn against. It encounters were excluded between teams in the same group or the same national association. The first legs took place on February 14, 2013, the return legs on 21 February 2013.
Second round
The draw for the first knockout round games also took place on December 20, 2012 at 14:00 clock in Nyon. The first legs on March 7, 2013, the return legs on March 14, 2013.
Quarterfinals
The draw for the quarter-finals took place on 15 March 2013. The first legs took place on April 4, 2013, the return matches were played on 11 April 2013.
Semifinal
The draw for the semi-finals took place in Nyon, Switzerland on April 12, 2013. The first legs were on April 25, 2013, the return matches on 2 May 2013.
