2012–13 UEFA Europa League

The UEFA Europa League 2012/13 was the 42nd edition of the second most important competition for European football clubs, which took place up to the 2008/09 season under the name of the UEFA Cup. The contest took this season 193 clubs from all 53 national associations of UEFA part.

The season began with the first leg of the first qualifying round on July 3, 2012, and ended with the final on 15 May 2013 the Amsterdam Arena. There, Chelsea against Benfica won by a last minute goal from Branislav Ivanović 2-1 and took so after the Champions League in 2012 and the Europa League title in the following season.

Participant

Participants qualified through the national league and cup competitions in the UEFA member associations. Automatically eligible to start was the title holder of the previous year and the National Federation Cup winners of the Nations, provided that they had not qualified for the high-order Champions League competition in the first six places in the five-year evaluation. Thus, in the 2011/12 season took the then defending champions FC Porto not in the contest, as he had qualified as Portuguese champions directly for the Champions League. Mode

First held in 2012 found three qualifying rounds between early July and early August. In the draws the teams according to their club coefficient based equally in set (stronger ) and unseeded (weaker ) teams were divided and drawn against each other.

The final round was called for better marketing opportunities " play-off ". In this round, the losing teams in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League came in 2012/13 added.

Group stage

For the first time alongside the defending champions and the cup winners of associations 1-6 in the UEFA five year ranking were automatically qualified for the group stage. Among the 24 teams that qualified through the group stage of the Europa League, the eight third group of the Champions League were added. The draw of the sixteenth finals took place at 14:00 clock in Nyon on December 20, 2012. The group winners from the Europa League and the four best third out of the Champions League here were set; them the rest of the teams were drawn against. Second round
