Ubon Ratchathani Province

Ubon Ratchathani ( Thai: อุบลราชธานี ) is a province ( Changwat ) in the northeast region of Thailand, known as Isan. The provincial capital is also called Ubon Ratchathani.

Geography

The Ubon Ratchathani province is located about 640 kilometers northeast of the capital, Bangkok on the border with Laos ( north-west to east) and Cambodia (south).

From the Khorat Plateau of Maenam Mun in Khong Chiam flows into the Mekong. The tri-border region Thailand, Laos and Cambodia from Thailand is marketed as the " emerald triangle"; this is the evergreen rain forest of the region.

Climate

History

Ubon Ratchathani as a community founded by Kham Phong, a son of Phra Ta from the family Suvarnkut, who went with his older brother Phra Vo from Vientiane in the Isan to create an independent territory. Kham Phong was built by King Taksin (r. 1768-1791 ) appointed in 1784 for the first governor of Ubon Ratchathani and retained the post until 1795. Was succeeded by his younger brother as governor after Thit Phom who administered the province until 1841, as such 1792 was formed under King Rama I.. Later, Ubon Ratchathani was the administrative center of the Monthon Isan.

During the Second World War, Ubon Ratchathani grew significantly, primarily as a result of the Japanese efforts to build a railway from Bangkok to Warin. They sat mainly a prisoner of war. During the Vietnam War, the U.S. Air Force built the now commercial and military Ubon Ratchathani Airport.
