Wolseley Motors

The Wolseley Motor Company was a British automobile manufacturer.

History

1895 Herbert Austin began at the newly formed Wolseley Sheep Shearing Company by the subsidiary company in Birmingham with the development of three- wheeled vehicles. In 1896 the first Wolseley car was presented. Austin left the company in 1905 and founded his own company. Between 1905 and 1910 the designer John Davenport Siddeley led the company, the vehicles were marketed as Wolseley - Siddeley. During the First World War produced Wolseley Hispano -Suiza V8 aircraft engines under license.

1927 Wolseley went bankrupt and was taken over by Morris. Since identical parts have been used in models of brands Morris, MG and Wolseley. After the Second World War, the Wolseley models become increasingly similar to the Morris models. In 1949 the production facilities were transferred to the Morris Cowley plant after. From then on were cars that were offered under the brand name Wolseley, only more luxurious equipped variants of Morris models. In 1975, the new parent company, British Leyland, a production of automobiles under the brand name Wolseley.
