Gottfried Döhn

Gottfried Döhn ( born June 10, 1951 in Dresden ) is a retired German rower.

Gottfried Döhn competed for the SC Einheit Dresden, where he was coached by Hans Eckstein. In 1973 he rowed in the coxless four, with whom he was East German and European champions. In 1975 he moved into the eighth and won in the year the championship title. The following year he won the eighth in Montreal at the 1976 Olympic Games gold medal. Then moved Döhn in the Dresden coxed four. 1977 and 1978 the boat was world champion. Only in 1979, he could not qualify as second in his class boat in the GDR championships for the major events of the year. In Moscow he won his second Olympic gold at the 1980 Olympics in the quad. After the Games, he received in 1980 and the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold.

After his playing career Döhn first worked as a truck driver. He was an employee of the State Department and worked as technical director at the East German embassy in Mali. Today he lives in Dresden and is representative for pharmaceutical products.
