List of cities in Denmark by population

The list of cities in Denmark provides an overview of the development of the population of the larger cities and all towns in the state of Denmark (as of 1 January 2007). It also contains an overview of places with municipal law and a complete listing of all former municipalities of the country in alphabetical order (as of 31 December 2006).

On 1 January 2007, many municipalities ( kommuner ) were merged into larger units. It was in particular a reduction in the number of municipalities from 270 to 98, the 16 offices ( a civil servant ) were merged into five regions ( RegioNER ).

Municipalities by population

In the Capital Region with the capital Copenhagen live 1,645,825 inhabitants 642 inhabitants per km ² ( 1,603,008 without Bornholm; 812 inhabitants per km ² As of 1 January 2008). Thus 30 percent of the country's population is concentrated in the capital region.

The following table lists all of the municipal reform since 2007, of the communities, the results of the official estimate of the Statistical Office of Denmark in 1980, 1990, 2000 and 2006 ( each January 1st) and the region to which the community belongs listed. The inhabitants numbers refer to the respective community in its political boundaries, without politically independent suburbs.

Urban settlements by population

The following table lists the urban settlements with more than 20,000 inhabitants and the results of the official estimate of the Statistical Office in Denmark from 1990, 2000 and 2005 (each January 1st). Listed is also the region to which the city belongs. The inhabitants numbers refer to the respective urban settlement - the geographical area the city - not the city or municipality in the political sense.

Denmark was until 31 December 2006 in 13 magisterial districts ( a civil servant ) and 270 municipalities divided ( kommuner ).

Places with city status

This is a list of places that hold the municipal law in Denmark. Since 1970, a municipal reform was carried out and the number of municipalities was reduced considerably the number of inhabitants from 1950 are often re- size without is my finished villages. The population figures from 1970 are for the entire municipality, including the surrounding urban area, the rural region.
