Robert E. Sweeney

Robert E. Sweeney (* November 4, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio, † 30 June 2007 in Gates Mills, Ohio ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party. From 1965 to 1967 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 24th Congressional District of the State of Ohio.

Biography

Robert E. Sweeney was born the son of Congressman Martin L. Sweeney in Cleveland. At the St. Ignatius High School, he graduated from high school. He studied at Georgetown University and at Baldwin - Wallace College Jura. Then he went to the Army, where he served in World War II. In 1951 he was admitted to the bar and opened a law firm in Cleveland. In the period 1958-1962 he worked at the Attorney General of Ohio. In 1962 he was the Democratic candidate for Attorney General of Ohio. He was defeated by his Republican opponent.

In 1965 he was finally representative of the 24th district of Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives. There he represented the interests of his district for one term, until 1967. Upon retiring from Congress, he held various offices in the public service operates.

Sweeney died in 2007 at the age of 82 years. He was married to Kathryn and had with her 13 children.
