Humphrey H. Leavitt

Biography

Leavitt was born 1796 in Suffield, Connecticut. In 1800 he moved with his parents in the Northwest Territory. In Leavittsburg his father bought a piece of land and built himself an existence. The city was named after the family. At the age of 16 years, Leavitt served in the British -American War. Then Leavitt worked as a teacher. In 1816 he was then, after he studied law, admitted to the bar in Cadiz. The arbitration office in Harrison County he held from 1818 to 1820. In 1819 he moved to Steubenville. In 1823 he was prosecutor in Jefferson County.
