John Thomson (Ohio politician)

John Thomson ( born November 20, 1780 in Ireland, † December 2, 1852 in Lisbon, Ohio ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party. From 1825 to 1837 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 6th, 12th and 17th congressional district of the state of Ohio.

Biography

John Thomson was born in Ireland. In 1787 he moved to the United States with his parents. They settled in Ohio, where Thomson visited the school and then studied medicine. He moved to Lisbon and practiced there as a physician. 1814, 1815 and 1817 to 1820 he sat in the State Senate, 1816 House of Representatives from Ohio.

For the first time Thomson was elected to Congress in 1824, representing the 6th District Congress. In 1828 he was elected for the 12th District in the House of Representatives in 1832 for the newly created 17th district. In 1836 he could no longer stand as a candidate and returned to Ohio to get back to work in his profession. In 1852 he died in Lisbon and was buried at the New Lisbon Cemetery.
