Alexander Duncan (politician)

Alexander Duncan (* 1788 in Madison, Morris County, New Jersey, † March 23, 1853 in Cincinnati, Ohio ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party. From 1837 to 1841 and from 1843 to 1845 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 1st Congressional District of the State of Ohio.

Biography

Alexander Duncan was born in New Jersey. He studied medicine and then worked as a doctor. After he had moved to Ohio and settled in Cincinnati, he was a member of the House of Representatives from Ohio in 1828, 1829, 1831 and 1832. Immediately after that, he was until 1834 a member of the State Senate.

As a Democrat, he was from 1837 to 1841 and from 1843 to 1845 representatives of the 1st district of Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1844, he did not stand for re-election. He went back to Cincinnati and was until his death again worked as a doctor.

Duncan died in 1853 in Cincinnati and was buried in the Laurel Cemetery.
