Buck McKeon

Howard "Buck" McKeon ( born September 9, 1938 in Tujunga, California) is an American politician ( Republican). He represents since 1993 the 25th Congress constituency of the State of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Life

Born in the north of Los Angeles Howard McKeon visited the Verdugo Hills High School in Tujunga. He then studied at Brigham Young University Agriculture and reached in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science. He is married to Patricia Kunz and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

McKeon struck first on a career as a businessman. From 1979 to 1987 he was a board member of the school board in the Santa Clarita Valley; then he served until 1992 as mayor of Santa Clarita. In this place he belonged, moreover, to the City Council, where he worked in the banking industry. From 1988 to 1992 McKeon served on the board of the Republican Party of California.

1992 applied McKeon is the successor of not more candidates Democrats Edward R. Roybal in the U.S. House of Representatives. He won the election against the Democratic candidate James Gilmartin with 52 percent of the vote, put on 3 January 1993, in the Congress and has since been confirmed in eight times its mandate. Most recently, he won the 2008 against the Democrat Jackie Conaway, where he scored with a vote share of 57.7 percent of his worst result since his first election. From 2006 to 2007 McKeon was chairman of the education and labor committee in the House of Representatives; currently he is the highest-ranking representatives of the opposition ( Ranking Member) in the Armed Services Committee.

McKeon criticized Barack Obama's plans to close the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base since Obama has presented no alternative, what should be done with the prisoners or future terrorist prisoners.
