Christopher Cox

Charles Christopher Cox ( born October 16, 1952 in Saint Paul, Minnesota ) is an American politician. Between 1989 and 2005 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Christopher Cox attended by 1970 the common schools and then studied until 1973 at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. This was followed up in 1977 to study at the Harvard Business School. At the same time he completed a law degree at Harvard University. After qualifying as a lawyer, he was in the years 1977 and 1978, a legal assistant of the federal judge Herbert Choy. He also practiced as a private attorney. In the years 1982 and 1983 he held in his Harvard lectures on economic issues. He was also co-founder of Context Corp.. Saint Paul. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. From 1986 to 1988 he served on the senior staff of President Ronald Reagan.

In the congressional elections of 1988, Cox was the 40th electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Robert Badham on January 3, 1989. After eight elections he could remain until his resignation on 2 August 2005 in Congress. From 1993 to 2003 he represented there the newly created 47th district of his state, starting from 2003 the 48th electoral district. From 1997 to 2001 Cox was chairman of the Select Committee on U.S. National Security and Military / Commercial Concerns with the People 's Republic of China, which dealt with the relations with the People 's Republic of China. He then headed the Committee on Homeland Security. In his time as a congressman of the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, the Iraq war and the military mission in Afghanistan fell.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives was Christopher Cox between 2005 and 2009 as the successor to William H. Donaldson Chairman of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Since 2009, he resumed practicing as a lawyer in a large law firm.
