Winners and nominated movie productions in the category of Best Film - Comedy or Musical ( Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy ), which honors the most outstanding feature films of the past calendar year. The category was created in 1952 to life. From 1944 to 1950, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association ( HFPA ) awarded a Film Award ( Best Picture ) no distinction between film genre ( see Golden Globe Award / Best Picture - Drama ). The award goes to the production company or the U.S. film distribution.
The term of the films must be at least 70 minutes after the current regulations. The productions must have been where the ceremony the previous year shown in the greater Los Angeles seven days. Simultaneously, the film in special performances must be made available to members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association ( a regular theatrical release or a press screening, to which members are invited also satisfies this condition). Musicals should be defined as a comedy or drama, in which song will be used instead of spoken dialogue to advance the plot. Movies with a share of at least 51 percent of non- English speaking dialogue or higher may only be nominated in the category Best Foreign Language Film.
In 13 of 67 cases, the best film comedy or best musical was later awarded the Oscar, last done in 2012, with the award to Michel Hazanavicius ' The Artist. Were most awarded films in which Woody Allen, Robert Altman, George Cukor, Morton DaCosta, Norman Jewison, Walter Lang, Vincente Minnelli, Mike Nichols, Otto Preminger, Herbert Ross and Billy Wilder film was directed by ( two wins ). Between 1959 and 1963 prices for Best Comedy and Best Musical were awarded separately, while from the early 1990s appeared also animated films such as Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King in the winning or nominated lists. Since 2007, this will be honored in a separate category.
