Al McCandless

Alfred " Al " McCandless ( born July 23, 1927 in Brawley, California ) is a former American politician. Between 1983 and 1995 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Al McCandless attended the public schools in Los Angeles. Between 1945 and 1946 in the final stages of World War II and again from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War, he served as an officer in the Marine Corps. In the meantime, he studied at the University of California at Los Angeles. Between 1953 and 1975, McCandless worked as a car and truck dealers. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. From 1972 to 1982 he was a member of the county council in Riverside County. At that time he was also active in the administrative building in this district.

In the congressional elections of 1982, McCandless was the 37th electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Jerry Lewis on January 3, 1983.
