Thomas County (Kansas)

Thomas County is a county located in the state of Kansas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Colby.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme northwest of Kansas, is in the north about 45 miles from Nebraska, and to the west about 50 miles from Colorado and has an area of ​​2784 square kilometers without significant water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Rawlins County, Decatur County, Sheridan County, Gove County, Logan County and Sherman County.

History

Thomas County was formed on October 8, 1885. It was named after George H. Thomas, a major general of the northern states during the American Civil War.
