History

The place was first mentioned in 1338 in a letter of Prince Nicholas II of Werle as Grabow documented with 27 yards. The place name is of Slavic origin Grabow and means as much as Hainbuchenort. In order to distinguish the place from other places named Grabow, he was called in the 18th century Grabowhöfe. After the Thirty Years' War, the village was owned by various changes of ownership of the von Hahn. The Count Friedrich von Hahn built around 1800 a still existing Fachwerkgutshaus. In 1886, the town got a railway station. Mid-1930s, the estate was divided and sold to a settlement company. The rest of the estate was sold to the land reform to new farmers. In 1955, an LPG arose. The community Grabowhöfe was then developed into a central village and thereby received a great school and also some prefabricated buildings.

On 1 January 2013, the previously independent community Vielist was incorporated into Grabowhöfe. The current coat of arms of local Vielist is from April 2013 to the new coat of arms of Grabowhöfe.
