Durham County (North Carolina)

Durham County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is at Durham Eno River.

Geography

The County is located just north-east of the geographic center of North Carolina, is located in the north about 40 miles from Virginia and has an area of 771 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Person County, Granville County, Wake County, Chatham County and Orange County.

Durham County is divided into six townships: Carr, Durham, Lebanon, Mangum, Oak Grove and Triangle.

History

Durham County was formed in 1881 from parts of Orange County and Wake County. It was named, as well as the district capital of Durham, according to Dr. Bartlett Snipes Durham, a landowner, who also donated the land for the city.
