Alleghany County (North Carolina)

Alleghany County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Sparta, which was named after the city of Sparta in Greece.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern North Carolina, bordered to the north by Virginia, is located in the west about 45 miles from Tennessee and has an area of 610 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It borders in North Carolina clockwise to the following counties: Surry County, Wilkes County and Ashe County.

Alleghany County is divided into seven townships: Cherry Lane, Cranberry, Gap Civil, Glade Creek, Piney Creek, Prathers Creek and Whitehead.
